Taylor Swift criticised in Brazil for not helping the family of the fan who died at her concert: Coldness and contempt

Taylor Swift’s experience in Brazil has not been one of the best of her ‘The Eras Tour’. Following the death of fan Ana Clara Benevides during the first concert in Rio de Janeiro, the singer is facing criticism from Brazilians for not helping the 23-year-old’s family with the costs of transporting her body.

The extreme heat in Brazil claimed the life of Ana Clara, who suffered a cardiac arrest due to the heat in the venue moments before the show.

Following the confirmation of the fan’s death, Taylor Swift issued a short statement on her social media regretting what happened: “I can’t believe I’m writing these words, but it’s with a broken heart that I say we lost a fan tonight before my show. I can’t even tell you how devastated I am about this,” the singer wrote.

However, the ‘Blank Space’ and ‘Bad Blood’ hitmaker’s fan community has criticised the pop star for failing to help Ana Clara’s family and for not mentioning what happened during her subsequent concerts.

Taylor’s fans raised the money
Due to the lack of support from the singer and the organising company, Time For Fun, a group of fans mobilised to raise the money needed to transport the body of the young woman, who lived in Mato Grosso do Sul.

“We would like to thank the fans who have contributed in any way, either by spreading the word or donating so that Ana could return home! A responsibility that was not ours, but due to the negligence and irresponsibility of third parties, we had to take the initiative to help the family in that delicate moment. We will never forget”, Update Swift Brasil wrote on X, one of the biggest fan communities of the singer in the country and the main responsible for organising the donation.

“We would like to urge you to look at the situation of Ana Clara’s family. In a recent interview, her family reported that the organisation is not providing any support to bring her home. We understand this is a sensitive issue, but it happened, we can’t pretend it didn’t. They need help, please!” she wrote in a previous post, this time mentioning Taylor Swift and Tree Paine, the singer’s celebrity publicist, on her profiles.

Taylor Swift’s ‘silence’ upsets fans
In addition to the statement on the day of the tragedy, Taylor Swift has not mentioned the incident in other situations. A fact that has upset the singer’s fans, who ask for ‘respect’ for Ana Clara.

During Monday’s concert – which was due to take place on Sunday but was postponed – the pop star included the song ‘Bigger Than The Whole Sky’ in her set, which was reported in the international press as a tribute to the young woman who died.

However, people who attended the stadium reported on social media that at no point was Ana Clara Benevides’ name mentioned, before or after the song.

Swift’s ‘cold’ attitude towards her fan’s death has generated a lot of criticism on social media.

“And she didn’t even mention the girl’s name. Everyone understands and is fully aware that it’s not Taylor’s fault, but it’s her choice to ignore and treat what happened to this girl with coldness and contempt,” one user posted on X.

“Taylor Swift’s stance on Ana’s death was rubbish. She didn’t mention the girl’s name or anything like that. You chose to go on with your life, get up on stage and sing like nothing happened. What if she was an American fan, what would the stance be?” another criticised.
