Trump Announces Potential 104% Tariff on China

On April 7, 2025, President Donald Trump announced plans to impose an additional 50% tariff on Chinese imports if China does not withdraw its recently imposed 34% retaliatory tariffs by April 8. This would increase the total tariffs on Chinese goods to 104%.
In a statement, President Trump emphasized the necessity of this action, stating that the United States is “bringing in billions” from its own tariffs and that other countries are now engaging in negotiations. He highlighted a conversation with the Japanese Prime Minister, noting that Japan is sending a top team to negotiate due to previous trade imbalances. He concluded by asserting, “It all has to change, but especially with CHINA!!!”
This development has heightened tensions in the ongoing trade dispute between the United States and China, with potential significant impacts on global markets and economies.
