Trouble: With Anger Andy Reid replied the new teammate who blames him for joining the Chiefs.
After a prolonged period without a deal during the 2023 season, Carson Wentz wasted no time securing his next chapter in the NFL, joining the Kansas City Chiefs on a one-year contract for the 2024 campaign. The former No. 2 overall pick’s decision to sign with the Chiefs was influenced by a familiar voice from his past: Nick Foles.
Wentz credits Foles, a former teammate, for speaking highly of Chiefs coaches Andy Reid and Matt Nagy, with whom Foles had crossed paths during his stints with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chiefs.
I remember all the good things [Foles] had to say about his time here,” Wentz said according to ESPN’s Adam Teicher.
“He absolutely loved it. He loved working with those guys, and those things he said to me back then definitely still rang true in my head as I was making this decision.
“Those things were definitely a factor and gave me a little more peace and comfort in knowing what I was getting into.”
Despite enduring a series of ups and downs in recent years, including lackluster performances with the Indianapolis Colts and the Washington Commanders in 2021 and 2022 respectively, Wentz remained determined to find his footing in the league. His brief tenure with the Los Angeles Rams in 2023, serving as a mid-season addition, came to an end with the team opting to enlist Jimmy Garoppolo as Matthew Stafford’s backup.
Now, with a fresh start in Kansas City, Wentz aims to make the most of his opportunity while providing valuable depth behind superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The one-year deal guarantees him 2.2 million dollars, with the potential to earn an additional 1.1 million dollars through incentives, contingent upon his performance and contributions to the team’s success.
