Travis Kelce Talks the ‘Scrutiny’ of Dating Taylor Swift, Says He’s ‘Not Running Away from Any of It’
“I’ve never dealt with it,” Kelce said of the amount of attention he’s been getting from dating Swift
Travis Kelce is adjusting to a new level of fame since taking his relationship with Taylor Swift public last month.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 34, was already a star on the field, but dating an international superstar is a whole new level of attention.
On Monday, Kelce spoke with WSJ. Magazine for the cover of their December/January issue in a wide-ranging interview, which, of course, included talk of Swift, 33. During the chat, the athlete admitted that he has no intention of running from the “scrutiny” that has recently come with living his life under a larger microscope.
And there’s been plenty of new scrutiny, with paparazzi now lining up in his once-quiet Kansas City neighborhood.
Still, Kelce said he’s prepared to handle the added spotlight.
“Obviously I’ve never dated anyone with that kind of aura about them …. I’ve never dealt with it,” Kelce said. “But at the same time, I’m not running away from any of it …. The scrutiny she gets, how much she has a magnifying glass on her, every single day, paparazzi outside her house, outside every restaurant she goes to, after every flight she gets off, and she’s just living, enjoying life.”
He noted that Swift handles her fame extremely well. “When she acts like that I better not be the one acting all strange.”
Kelce quipped that it was actually his friends and family who are more nervous than he is about his budding romance, insisting that he not “f— this up!”
Kelce called Swift both “hilarious” and “a genius,” in the interview, and also revealed that he and the pop superstar share a similar outlook on family and work.
“Everybody knows I’m a family guy,” he said. “Her team is her family. Her family does a lot of stuff in terms of the tour, the marketing, being around, so I think she has a lot of those values as well, which is right up my alley.”
“I can tell you this,” she told WSJ, which said she was “beaming” to share, “He’s happier than I’ve seen him in a long time…. God bless him, he shot for the stars!”
