Taylor Swift joins Oxford University to study music degree

Taylor Swift has joined Oxford University as a student and is taking a DPhil in Theory of Music.
Global music sensation Taylor Swift is set to swap stadiums for seminar rooms as she embarks on a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in Theory of Music at the University of Oxford.
The chart-topping singer-songwriter, known for her lyrical genius and genre-spanning albums, will begin her studies this autumn at one of the world’s most prestigious institutions.
An insider close to the singer told the Oxford Mail: “Taylor is absolutely thrilled about this.
“She’s always had a deep passion for the academic side of music, and this opportunity allows her to explore it on a whole new level.
“This is a way to challenge herself intellectually and contribute to the field that has defined her life.”
The 14-time Grammy winner has spent nearly two decades redefining modern music, blending storytelling with intricate composition.
Her decision to pursue a doctorate at Oxford will allow her to delve into the theoretical underpinnings of music and its cultural significance, which is something she has long expressed interest in.
“This isn’t just an honorary degree,” another source close to the singer explained.
“Taylor wanted to earn the title of ‘Doctor’ the traditional way.
“She’s ready to put in the work, attend lectures, engage in discussions, and write a dissertation that could shape contemporary understandings of music theory.”
Ms Swift’s DPhil research is expected to focus on the intersection of popular music and classical composition, exploring how narrative song writing has evolved in Western music traditions.
Some experts believe her first-hand experience as a musician will bring a unique perspective to the field.
Professor Hugh Jester, an expert in music psychology at Oxford, commented: “Taylor Swift’s impact on modern music is undeniable.
“Her ability to blend musical forms and push lyrical boundaries makes her a fascinating candidate for academic research.
“I have no doubt she will bring fresh insights into the study of music theory.”
The news has sparked excitement among students, with many speculating about the possibility of spotting the global superstar on campus.
“Just imagining Taylor Swift discussing harmonic structures over coffee in a college library is surreal,” said Oxford student Beau Gus.
“I hope she performs at an open mic night at the King’s Arms!”
Ms Swift has yet to make an official statement, but sources suggest she is already preparing for the rigorous demands of a DPhil program.
“Taylor has always been incredibly disciplined,” a close friend noted.
“If she can handle writing 10 studio albums and performing hundreds of sold-out shows, she can certainly handle a doctoral thesis.”
Happy April Fools’ Day!
