Patrick Mahomes won his third Super Bowl MVP award
The Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs won their second consecutive Lombardi Trophy last season after beating the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.
Andy Reid’s team became the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowls since the 2004 New England Patriots and can win an unprecedented three-peat next year.
They’ve made a number of key acquisitions this offseason, including defensive end Mike Danna, who is reportedly returning to Kansas City next season after agreeing a three-year, $24 million contract extension.
Danna, who has been a free agent since last month, was a fifth-round draft pick for the Chiefs in 2020.
The 26-year-old started all 20 games for the Chiefs during the 2023 season, recording 6.5 sacks and 50 tackles.
He started in all four postseason games and played 74 percent of the Chiefs’ defensive snaps and 16 percent of special teams snaps last campaign.
Danna’s contract extension is a huge boost for defensive coordinator Steve Spagnoulo, especially after the Chiefs managed to keep hold of other defensive stalwarts Chris Jones and Drue Tranquill.
Jones signed a five-year, $158.75 million deal with $101 million in guarantees, which surpassed now-retired Aaron Donald as the NFL’s highest-paid defensive tackle.
