Michelle Obama Opens up About Terrifying Moment She Found Out Sasha Had Been in a Car Accident

Michelle Obama has been quite open about her time living in the White House since her husband’s two-term presidency came to an end in 2016. And, while we thought we had heard every story the former first lady had to share about her time living at the prestigious address, she is constantly surprising us with new stories, like the one she recently shared while appearing on Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie podcast.

Now, we all know that the Obamas did everything they could to give their two daughters, Sasha and Malia, the most normal childhood they could despite their father’s high-level job. One of the ways Obama says she did that, was by allowing her kids to drive themselves around once they were finally old enough to drive.

“Once they got their licenses, I told the agents, ‘They have to drive,’ because you can only learn to drive by driving, you can’t learn it through osmosis in the back seat of an armored car,” she explained on her podcast appearance.

“So once they got their license, we got a car for them and then the agents had to figure out how to follow these teenagers to school, to parties, and it worked out — but one time Sasha got T-boned.” For those who are unfamiliar, “T-boned” is the phrase used when the front end of one car crashes into the side of another, essentially creating a “T.”

Obama recalled that the car was totaled, and that she had one very funny thought after she confirmed that her daughter was okay, saying, “And then I thought, ‘Oo I hope the lady that hit her is okay,’ because can you imagine if you T-Boned Sasha Obama!'”

Fortunately Sasha was okay, and we’re going to assume that the driver of the other car was as well. Thank goodness Obama was able to have a sense of humor about it all these years later, because it had to be terrifying to get that call in the moment!
