Michael Jordan’s Slam Dunk for Healthcare: Opening the Fourth Free Clinic in North Carolina

Basketball legend Michael Jordan continues to make significant strides off the court, championing healthcare accessibility in his home state of North Carolina. On February 19, 2025, Jordan unveiled his fourth free medical facility, the Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic, at 416 N. 30th St. in Wilmington.

This 7,300-square-foot clinic, developed in partnership with Novant Health, features 12 patient rooms and operates on weekdays, providing primary care services to uninsured and underinsured residents. Community health workers are also on-site to connect patients with essential local resources, addressing both medical and social determinants of health.

Jordan’s philanthropic journey in healthcare began in 2019 with the opening of two clinics in Charlotte. The success of these facilities led to a $10 million donation in 2024 to expand the initiative to Wilmington. The first Wilmington clinic served nearly 1,800 patients in its initial nine months, many of whom had never had access to primary care before.

Reflecting on his commitment, Jordan expressed, “It’s truly gratifying to know that in less than a year, our first Novant clinic in Wilmington has already made a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of individuals and families in my hometown.”

Ernie Bovio, president of Novant Health Coastal Region, praised Jordan’s vision and generosity, noting that the new clinic on Greenfield Street has significantly benefited the community.

Through these clinics, Jordan and Novant Health are addressing critical healthcare gaps, ensuring that quality medical services are accessible to all, regardless of income or insurance status. This initiative not only provides essential healthcare but also fosters a sense of hope and well-being in underserved communities.
