Elon Musk Criticizes Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ for Undermining Government Efficiency Efforts

Elon Musk has voiced his disappointment with former President Donald Trump, citing two key issues: Trump’s failure to integrate Dogecoin into federal operations and the recent passage of what Musk has called the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” a massive government spending package that Musk argues undermines efforts toward government efficiency.
Musk, who heads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has been a long-time advocate for cost-cutting, innovation, and the use of cryptocurrency—particularly Dogecoin—in streamlining public services. His frustrations were brought to the forefront following the passage of a sweeping budget bill that includes substantial tax cuts and major increases in defense and border security spending.
According to Musk, the legislation could add as much as \$3.8 trillion to the national deficit over the next decade. This, he says, directly contradicts the mission of DOGE, which has claimed to save the government over \$160 billion through agency shutdowns and workforce reductions.
Adding to the tension is Musk’s dissatisfaction with Trump’s inaction on crypto adoption. Despite Musk’s vocal support and previous financial backing for Trump’s campaign, he expected more enthusiasm for decentralized finance, particularly Dogecoin, within government operations. “I expected a champion for innovation and fiscal sanity,” Musk reportedly told insiders, “but I’m seeing old politics with a new label.”
Musk’s criticism has resonated with fiscal conservatives in Congress, many of whom are also pushing back against the bill’s impact on the national debt. The controversy signals a potential rift between Musk and Trump, two figures who were previously aligned on several political and economic fronts.
With the budget bill now in the Senate and public debate heating up, Musk’s comments have added significant weight to the ongoing discussions about the future of American fiscal policy—and the role innovators like him should play in shaping it.
