Grohl, 55, has been married to his wife Jordyn Blum, 48, since 2003, and they share three daughters: Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10.
The Foo Fighters frontman revealed that he’d welcomed a daughter with another woman, whom he hasn’t identified, in a Tuesday, Sept. 10 Instagram post.
“I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage,” Grohl wrote in a statement. “I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.”
Amid the news, it appears Grohl and Blum’s eldest daughter deactivated her Instagram account: It is unclear when Violet — who has previously performed with her father — shut down the account, but it was still inactive as of Wednesday morning.
Grohl and Blum first met in 2001, when she was working as a producer at MTV, Spin reported. The pair wed on Aug. 2, 2003 in a wedding attended by famous friends, including legendary music executive Clive Davis and Grohl’s former Nirvana bandmate Krist Novoselic.
In 2003, Grohl told Teen People Blum was “pretty much” the first person he’d ever been truly honest with. “Now I’ve got nothing to hide,” he said. “When you’re not trying to be someone else, being honest is easy.”
That same year, Grohl told PEOPLE that he rekindled their relationship after now-late bandmate Taylor Hawkins’ 2001 overdose on painkillers gave him a new perspective on life.
“I had decided I didn’t want to get serious about a relationship because I was single and I was running around — I was free,” he said at the time. “But that was the first thing I thought about when Taylor came out of [his coma]: I had met the woman that I should marry and have children with and I hadn’t talked to her in months. She said, ‘You’re the last person I thought I’d ever hear from again.’ And I said, ‘Hey, let’s go to dinner.’ ”
After saying “I do,” the pair were not only spouses but also collaborators. Blum — who had previously co-directed the Foo Fighters’ 2002 “Walk a Line” music video — appeared in the band’s 2011 “White Limo” video. Blum has also been a muse for Grohl, who has said she inspired songs like “Statues” and “Burn Away.”
The pair were most recently spotted together in London, when they stepped out for Wimbledon in July.
